Il fut, notamment, titulaire de l&rsquo;orchestre philharmonique de Berlin de 1922 \u00e0 1945, puis de 1952 \u00e0 1954, ann\u00e9e de son d\u00e9c\u00e8s. Personnage complexe et quelque peu ombrageux, il vouait par ailleurs une haine irrationnelle \u00e0 Karajan, son successeur \u00e0 la t\u00eate du philharmonique de Berlin, qu&rsquo;il ne nomma jamais autrement que \u00ab\u00a0Monsieur K\u00a0\u00bb, et entretenait des relations conflictuelles avec, notamment, Arturo Toscanini, l&rsquo;autre star de la direction de la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du vingti\u00e8me si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Malgr\u00e9 sa r\u00e9putation mythique, j\u2019ai toujours eu un peu de mal \u00e0 adh\u00e9rer compl\u00e8tement \u00e0 son style de direction : tempi souvent instables, partition sollicit\u00e9e au profit d\u2019une expressivit\u00e9 et d\u2019une \u00e9motion de l\u2019instant, impr\u00e9cisions\u2026 \u00c7a fonctionne tr\u00e8s bien \u00e0 premi\u00e8re \u00e9coute, \u00e7a ne r\u00e9siste pas toujours \u00e0 des \u00e9coutes r\u00e9p\u00e9t\u00e9es et j\u2019ai une plus grande pr\u00e9dilection pour des chefs qualifi\u00e9s \u00abd\u2019objectifs\u00bb &#8211;<em>Toscanini, Reiner, Szell, Steinberg\u2026<\/em>-, cette notion \u00e9tant toute relative face \u00e0 une partition. Le voir diriger, en vid\u00e9o, c&rsquo;est un peu comme regarder une marionnette d\u00e9gingand\u00e9e agitant les bras dans tous les sens : curieuse exp\u00e9rience !<br \/>\nPar ailleurs, une grande majorit\u00e9 de sa discographie officielle, notamment cher EMI, est constitu\u00e9e d&rsquo;enregistrements assez tardifs &#8211;<em>post-seconde guerre mondiale<\/em>&#8211; dans sa carri\u00e8re : Furtw\u00e4ngler d\u00e9testait les studios d&rsquo;enregistrements et \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 dans un \u00e9tat de sant\u00e9 tr\u00e8s d\u00e9clinant. Furtw\u00e4ngler &#8211; 1952, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>****<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Une version hyper-romantique, large et un peu sombre \u00e0 l&rsquo;orchestre &#8211;<em>les timbales du d\u00e9but, par exemple<\/em>-. Le soliste, Yehudi Menuhin, est plut\u00f4t solaire et sa sonorit\u00e9 est encore juste et belle, ce qui ne sera plus toujours le cas quelques ann\u00e9es plus tard.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u2022 Ludwig Van Beethoven<\/strong> &#8211; Concerto pour violon &#8211; Yehudi Menuhin, Philharmonia, W. Furtw\u00e4ngler &#8211; 1953, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>****<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Il existe une premi\u00e8re version de ce concerto enregistr\u00e9e par les m\u00eames artistes un peu plus t\u00f4t lors du festival de Lucerne, celle-ci est assez comparable et le son est un peu plus confortable. C&rsquo;est une excellente version c\u00f4t\u00e9 orchestre, tr\u00e8s po\u00e9tique, m\u00eame j&rsquo;en pr\u00e9f\u00e8re d&rsquo;autres, surtout pour leur soliste &#8211;<em>ici un peu raide dans le mouvement lent<\/em>-.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>\u2022 Anton Bruckner<\/strong> &#8211; Symphonie n\u00b08 &#8211; OP Vienne, W. Furtw\u00e4ngler &#8211; 1944, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\"><strong>****<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Wilhelm Furtw\u00e4ngler \u00e9tait d&rsquo;abord compositeur, avant d&rsquo;\u00eatre chef d&rsquo;orchestre : ses symphonies ne sont pas sans rappeler parfois celles de Bruckner, m\u00e2tin\u00e9es d&rsquo;un peu de Richard Strauss.
