Cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 Dresde en 1905, l&rsquo;op\u00e9ra est court : un seul acte ex\u00e9cut\u00e9 sans interruption et sans aucun moment de d\u00e9tente dans la progression dramatique tr\u00e8s intense. Il rencontra un vif succ\u00e8s mais fit scandale \u00e0 sa cr\u00e9ation, on lui reprocha tout \u00e0 la fois sa violence, sa n\u00e9crophilie implicite et son aspect tr\u00e8s provocateur, tant pour le th\u00e8me abord\u00e9 que pour la musique. &#8211;<em>Cliquer sur l&rsquo;image pour la voir en plus grand<\/em>-.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">L&rsquo;action se r\u00e9gule en Jud\u00e9e, \u00e0 la cour du roi H\u00e9rode. Elle est tr\u00e8s simple et peut se r\u00e9sumer ainsi :<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 Le proph\u00e8te Jochanaan (Jean-Baptiste) est emprisonn\u00e9 dans une citerne pour avoir d\u00e9nonc\u00e9 l\u2019immoralit\u00e9 du roi H\u00e9rode Antipas et de son \u00e9pouse H\u00e9rodiade.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 La princesse Salom\u00e9, fille d&rsquo;H\u00e9rodiade, est fascin\u00e9e par Jochanaan et tente de le s\u00e9duire, mais il la repousse violemment.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 Bless\u00e9e et obs\u00e9d\u00e9e, Salom\u00e9 d\u00e9veloppe un d\u00e9sir morbide pour lui.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 Lors d\u2019un banquet, H\u00e9rode demande \u00e0 Salom\u00e9 de danser. Elle accepte en \u00e9change d\u2019une r\u00e9compense : c&rsquo;est le c\u00e9l\u00e8bre \u00e9pisode de la fameuse \u201cDanse des sept voiles\u201d.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 Apr\u00e8s sa danse, elle exige la t\u00eate de Jochanaan sur un plateau d\u2019argent. Malgr\u00e9 l\u2019horreur d\u2019H\u00e9rode, la demande est ex\u00e9cut\u00e9e.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #737373;\"><strong><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">\u2022 Salom\u00e9 embrasse la t\u00eate du proph\u00e8te, d\u00e9pos\u00e9e sur un plateau dans une sc\u00e8ne finale d\u2019une intensit\u00e9 extr\u00eame -cf. extrait-. Dans ce r\u00f4le \u00e9minemment difficile &#8211;<em>qu&rsquo;elle emporta jusque sur sa pierre tombale, cf. imagette de gauche&#8230;-<\/em>, elle met en avant comme peu d&rsquo;autres la jeunesse fougueuse, le charme insouciant mais d\u00e9vastateur et la sauvagerie adolescente de Salom\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Face \u00e0 elle, on tient avec <strong>Hans Hotter<\/strong> le meilleur Jochanaan de la discographie : la voix est, \u00e0 cette date, en merveilleux \u00e9tat, l&rsquo;aigu est d&rsquo;une facilit\u00e9 qu&rsquo;on ne lui conna\u00eetra plus toujours plus tard et les graves sont d&rsquo;une solidit\u00e9 confondante, apportant \u00e0 la fois autorit\u00e9 et noblesse \u00e0 son personnage.<br \/>\nLes autres r\u00f4les &#8211;<em>H\u00e9rode, H\u00e9rodiade&#8230;<\/em>&#8211; sont \u00e9galement tous tr\u00e8s bien tenus. L&rsquo;orchestre du Metropolitan est meilleur que sa r\u00e9putation, sans doute parce qu&rsquo;il est s\u00e9v\u00e8rement tenu, avec rigueur et efficacit\u00e9, par <strong>Fritz Reiner<\/strong>, qui \u00e9tait tout sauf un plaisantin et connaissait son Strauss sur le bout des doigts &#8211;<em>il enregistra une substantielle collection des ses po\u00e8mes symphoniques, ainsi que les op\u00e9ras Salom\u00e9 et Elektra<\/em>-. Enfin, le public am\u00e9ricain se montre plus discret et disciplin\u00e9 que lors des op\u00e9ras italiens, o\u00f9, \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, il applaudissait encore souvent n&rsquo;importe quand apr\u00e8s chaque air&#8230;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Les bandes enregistr\u00e9es \u00e9taient destin\u00e9es \u00e0 une diffusion radiophonique. D\u00e9sormais tomb\u00e9es dans le domaine public, elles ont \u00e9t\u00e9 r\u00e9\u00e9dit\u00e9es sur plusieurs labels, et g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement toujours dans des conditions sonores satisfaisantes.
